Abstract:
The global gaming industry has recorded 10,977 layoffs in 2026, nearly 11,000 people, exceeding the 9,197 positions in 2025. ASGC game industry layoff tracking data also shows that 2024 will still be the year with the largest layoffs in the past three years, with more than 15,000 people losing related jobs that year.

There are still two months until the end of 2026, and industry layoffs have not stopped. Based on this, the tracker predicts that the number of laid off jobs throughout the year may rise to approximately 13,000, but this number is currently only a prediction and is not the final result that has already occurred or been confirmed by the company.

EA, Ubisoft and Xbox are listed as the more prominent cases this year. Many of Xbox's studios have been affected by varying degrees of layoffs in the past few months, and job cuts may continue in the future. High project budgets, growing development costs and the restructuring of large companies are considered important backgrounds for the industry's continued reduction in personnel.

It is also difficult for developers who participate in successful works to obtain long-term job security. PlayStation recently laid off the developers of "Soul of Mount Yotei", showing that good business performance does not mean that the team can avoid subsequent adjustments. At present, the scale of subsequent layoffs of each company and the estimate of about 13,000 people for the whole year still need to be confirmed by further information.
