Nvidia today launched a new generation of laptop graphics cards in the RTX500 and RTX1000 series, which are mainly suitable for laptops and mobile workstations. The built-in neural network computing unit (NPU) is used for light local AI calculations. If complex AI calculations are to be performed, GPU chip processing will be used.

These graphics cards are based on the AdaLovelace architecture and come in these models: RTX500, RTX1000, RTX2000, RTX3000, RTX3500, RTX4000 and RTX5000.


AI processing capabilities:

One of the highlights of these new graphics cards includes all being equipped with neural network computing units with built-in tensor cores suitable for AI processing. The NPU is mainly responsible for handling light AI tasks, while the GPU chip will provide additional AI performance for more demanding AI workflows.

Consumer and entry-level workstations:

Among the new graphics cards launched this time, the RTX500 and RTX1000 are aimed at consumer devices and entry-level workstations. The TOPS of the RTX500 is 154 and the RTX1000 is 193.

Nvidia claims that compared to purely using the CPU, the RTX500 can provide 14 times the generative AI performance for models such as stable diffusion, use AI to perform photo editing 3 times faster, and improve 3D rendering performance 10 times.

If users want to use AI to achieve advanced rendering, data science, and deep learning, they can consider the RTX2000~5000 series. These graphics cards provide more powerful performance.

Highlights of RTX500/1000 summarized by NVIDIA:

  • Third-generation RT core: Light tracing performance is twice that of the previous generation, enabling high-fidelity and realistic rendering.

  • Fourth-generation TensorCore: 2x the throughput of the previous generation, accelerating deep learning training, inference, and AI-based creative workloads

  • Ada Universal CUDA Core: 30% higher FP32 throughput compared to previous generation, significantly improving performance for graphics and compute workloads

  • Dedicated GPU memory: RTX500 comes with 4GB of memory and RTX1000 comes with 6GB of memory, allowing users to run more demanding 3D and AI-based applications

  • DLSS3: Improve performance by generating additional high-quality frames

  • AV1 encoder: Support AV1 encoder

  • Laptop GPUs equipped with RTX500 and RTX1000 will be available this spring, when Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI will launch new devices equipped with these graphics cards.
