Apple’s $250 million (approximately 1.7 billion yuan) settlement plan to settle a U.S. consumer class action lawsuit triggered by the delay of the new version of AI Siri has been preliminarily approved by the judge.This dispute originated from Apple's 2024 WWDC conference to demonstrate the new personalized Siri equipped with Apple Intelligence. This set of voice assistant functions can read emails, text messages, sense screen content, and deeply link various apps. It will continue to be widely publicized on the official website, press conferences, and TV ads. It will be until March 2025 that Apple officially announced that the launch of this function will be postponed.
Consumers immediately launched a class action lawsuit, accusing Apple of false advertising and misleading purchase behavior. Apple did not admit its fault and only stated that the settlement was to focus on the development of products and services.
In June this year, Apple finally officially launched Siri AI at WWDC. The iOS27 developer beta version is currently online. After the system is officially launched in September, iPhone 15 Pro and newer models will be able to use full functionality.
Users who want to apply for compensation need to meet the corresponding conditions:Only for residents of the United States, purchase any iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, or iPhone 16 Pro Max model between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025.
When applying, you will most likely need to provide a purchase certificate or device serial number. Users do not need to do anything now and only need to wait for follow-up notifications. The official settlement-related application website has not yet been completed, and there are still several months until the application is open.
Court documents show that within 45 days after the plan is initially approved, eligible users will receive an email reminder. Even if they do not receive an email, they will still be eligible as long as they meet the purchase time, model, and regional requirements.
The compensation amount is calculated based on the equipment. The basic compensation for a single unit is US$25. If the number of users who finally submit claims is less than the estimated value, the maximum compensation amount for a single unit can be increased to US$95 (approximately RMB 643).
It is worth noting that the Bank of China’s Apple Smart has recently been approved. Although it is an old version, there is finally hope. The official version of iOS 27 is expected to be launched in September.
