Australian battery project developer GenexPower said on Wednesday it was working with Tesla Inc to investigate the cause of a fire at a large battery pack at a facility in Queensland. The company said a fire broke out in one of the 40 large battery packs at the Bouldercombe Battery Project in Rockhampton at around 7:45 pm local time on Tuesday.
The battery pack was allowed to burn out under the supervision of firefighters and work was underway to determine what caused the fire, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
"No other Megapack modules were affected. The fire is now under control and the site has been disconnected from the grid," Sydney-based Genex said in a statement.
At the end of July 2021, another energy storage project in Australia using Tesla's Megapack system also had a fire, which burned for several days before being extinguished. Tesla CEO Musk tweeted after the accident that this was "Prometheus Unbound."
