Microsoft is once again expanding the reach of its Copilot artificial intelligence assistant service, this time to higher education institutions and their students. Previously, Microsoft launched Copilot (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise Edition) with commercial data protection capabilities for all higher education students and their teachers aged 18 and above.
Today, as part of its "Reimagine Education" campaign, Microsoft announced in a blog post that it will provide advanced Copilot for Microsoft 365 AI services to higher education schools and their students starting April 1. This service will be available as a paid add-on to schools with students who have Microsoft 365 or Office 365 A3/A5 licenses.
Microsoft also announced that a Copilot private preview program with commercial data protection will be available in spring 2024 for schools with students under the age of 18.
In terms of non-"Copilot" education business, Microsoft revealed that later in March, "Reading Progress" and "Microsoft Teams for Education" (Microsoft Teams for Education) will provide new features for free. The company said the new feature will allow teachers to access artificial intelligence services to "draft content such as rubrics, homework guidance, personalized reading passages and learning objectives."
In addition, Microsoft also revealed that the new tool "Math Progress" will enter a private preview program for educators, while the student tool "Math Coach" will also be launched in a private preview in the near future. Microsoft said
These tools use artificial intelligence to help students identify where they are struggling and provide real-time, step-by-step tutoring on solving math problems.
The company also released a new, free Microsoft Education AI toolkit designed to help school leaders develop holistic AI-based plans for their students. Finally, the company also revealed a new Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Service that will make PCs used by students more secure. In the near future, all Microsoft 365A5 users will receive the service at a discounted price.
