It's only been a few months since the implosion of Oceangate's Titan tourist submersible, but Hollywood producers are already working on a movie based on the incident. According to Deadline, MindRiot Entertainment will produce the film, with E. Brian Dobbins ("The Blackening," "Black-ish") serving as co-producer.
According to Deadline, the film will follow the events before, during, and after the Titan's implosion. In June this year, the Titan submersible embarked on a journey to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. After losing contact with the surface, the U.S. Coast Guard discovered that the Titan had suffered a "catastrophic implosion" during its descent, killing all five passengers on board, including Oceangate CEO Stockton Rush.
MindRiot's Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey will co-write the upcoming film. "Not only will our film honor all those involved in the submersible tragedy and their families, but the film will also serve as a vessel to address larger concerns about the nature of media today," Keasey said in a statement to Deadline.
In addition, MindRiot is producing a feature film called "Salvaged," which tells the life of former Oceangate mission director Kyle Bingham and revolves around Bingham's many dives on the submersible.
