The September 2023 report published by StatCounter reveals the latest statistics regarding desktop operating systems, namely Windows. According to the statistical results, the situation has not changed much. Windows 11 still ranks second, which is far from the previous generation.

According to StatCounter, Microsoft's latest desktop operating system (about to launch two generations) is being used by approximately 23.64% of PC users. Despite an increase of 0.57 percentage points, Windows 11's market share remained relatively unchanged for the sixth consecutive month.

The Windows 11 Moment 4 update may help the operating system gain momentum, thanks to several highly anticipated changes such as taskbar improvements, new volume mixer, Copilot, and more. However, don’t expect too much until Microsoft rolls it out to all users in November 2023.

The following is the Windows market according to StatCounter:

Windows10-71.62% (-0.32 percentage points)

Windows11-23.64% (+0.57 percentage points)

Windows7-3.33% (-0.17 percentage points)

Windows8.1-0.61% (-0.03 percentage points)

Windows8-0.35% (+0.05 percentage points)

Over the next two years, Microsoft will continue to provide Windows 10 with monthly updates of security patches and fixes, meaning the operating system will remain the most popular version of Windows for the remainder of its lifecycle and beyond. Since there are rumors that Microsoft will release Windows "12" next year, the possibility of Windows 11 gaining at least 50% market share in the global market is slim.
