According to Kotaku, half of Bandcamp’s employees have been affected by massive layoffs from developer Epic Games. Everyone laid off by the music platform will receive a severance package of six months' salary, and the company's union, Bandcamp United, is negotiating better terms.
Songtradr spokesperson Lindsay Nahmiache told the media that 60 of Bandcamp's 118 employees were invited to continue working, while 58 were not.
The news comes as Epic finalizes the sale of Bandcamp to music licensing company Songtradr. Epic announced the news when it disclosed the layoffs. In September, Epic Games said it would lay off 830 people, accounting for about 16% of its total employees. Mediatonic, the studio behind "Fall Beans", has also been affected by layoffs.
In addition to selling Bandcamp, which it acquired in March 2022, Epic also divested the technology company SuperAwesome it acquired in 2020.
