The "Top Ten Happiest Cities in China 2023" research report objectively ranked the happiness index of 337 cities at prefecture level and above in the country, excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and Nanjing ranked first.Following closely are: Hangzhou, Changsha, Hefei, Zhoushan, Wuhu, Suzhou, Ningbo, Dalian and Zhuhai ranking in the top ten.
Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen were all ranked outside the 10th place, while Chengdu ranked only 20th, Zhengzhou 25th, Xi'an 32nd, Chongqing 45th, and so on.
According to Ren Zeping, according to the urban happiness index evaluation system they constructed, ecological environment, economic environment, and social environment are three important dimensions that affect residents’ happiness.
