Apple has been reported on multiple occasions to transition from miniLED to OLED technology on its 2024 iPad Pro models, giving both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays significant upgrades, according to an analyst who predicts the high-end tablet lineup. One of the predictions is that the new models will be equipped with Apple's 3nm M3 chip.

Analysts believe that shipments of iPad Pro models will reach 8 million units in 2024, which is lower than the miniLED version, possibly due to the higher price.

Although analyst Ming-Chi Kuo did not predict the launch time of the 2024 iPad Pro models, he pointed out that one of the biggest changes in tablets next year will be OLED technology. According to reports, these two tablets will use the same LTPO backplane as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and will surpass them in terms of image quality and energy efficiency. The addition of LTPO backplane also means that the new iPad Pro series will support ProMotion technology, support a 120Hz refresh rate, and can reduce the refresh rate to 1Hz depending on the display content (such as static images).

However, the switch from miniLED to OLED will obviously lead to a price increase. Although Ming-Chi Kuo did not disclose the price of the new iPad Pro in 2024, he provided the following shipment estimates, saying that sales of these two products will reach 8 million units. Ming-Chi Kuo also pointed out that the above figures are lower than the miniLED version of iPad Pro, which is likely related to the high price, and mainstream consumers prefer the more affordable and larger 12.9-inch iPad Air.

"The shipment volume of the two OLED iPad Pros will reach 6-8 million units in 2024, and the shipment momentum is slightly weaker than the existing iPad Pro. This may be due to the higher price of the OLED iPad and the potential cannibalization of the 12.9-inch iPad Air."

The price of the miniLED version is expected to drop as newer models become available, and if you're not keen on upgrading to the latest and greatest model, you can now easily pick up an M2 iPad Pro for a significantly lower price.
