U.S. Senator Ron Wyden introduces new bill aimed at protecting telecommunications company communications security

In response to a massive hacking attack on telecom operators allegedly carried out by Chinese hackers, U.S. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden announced a new draft bill aimed at ensuring the security of U.S. phone networks and Americans' communications.
In a press release on Tuesday, Wyden announced the American Communications Security Act. The bill would order the FCC to "implement specific cybersecurity requirements," including:Telecom operators are required to conduct annual testing to assess the vulnerability of their networks,Hiring independent auditors to ensure telecom carriers comply with new FCC cybersecurity rules,Submit testing and audit documents and statements from the CEO and chief information security officer stating that the telecom carrier complied with FCC rules."Congress needs to step up and pass mandatory security rules to finally ensure our telecommunications systems are safe from hackers and spies," Wyden said in the release.
