Meta has updated the description at the top of its support page on its Quest head-mounted display device official website to say that a "software update issue" caused the Quest2, Quest3 and Quest3S headsets to malfunction. The company wrote that while "most" users can now use their headsets normally, it is "actively working to resolve this issue for all users."
Meta now says it's fixing the issue for "all users," which may be good news for Quest 2 and Quest 3 owners who have reported that Meta won't repair or replace their headsets because they're out of warranty.
Some Reddit users said the company had emailed them to confirm they were receiving out-of-warranty service, while a community manager on the Meta Support Forum wrote in an update yesterday that Meta's customer support "should now have a new direction on how to support users."
Meta posted on December 6 that "some new Quest 3S devices" were affected by a software update issue, but made no mention of the Quest 2 or 3 headsets or the software versions involved, either at the time or in an earlier version of the new support site news that UploadVR reported this week.
The company announced the rollout of its latest update, MetaQuest v71, on December 9, adding features such as an improved virtual desktop display connection method and keyboard passthrough support in virtual environments.
