According to a post today by a leaker named Kosutami, Apple plans to launch the second generation AirTags in May or June this year. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that the new AirTags will be released in mid-2025. May or June will coincide with this time.

Below we review the three rumored new features of AirTag2:

  • AirTag2 uses the second-generation UltraWideband chip, which is expected to extend the battery life by three times compared to the current AirTag. The chip debuted in iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. On the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models, there is an accurate people finding function that can help you find friends in crowded places, with a range of up to 200 feet/60 meters.

  • As an anti-tracking security measure, the new AirTags' built-in speakers are expected to be harder to remove or tamper with.

  • It is rumored that the new AirTag will improve integration with Apple Vision Pro.

  • The original AirTags were released at an Apple event in April 2021. In the United States, a single AirTag sells for $29 and a set of four for $99.

Kosutami is known for their collection of Apple prototypes, but they occasionally share accurate information about Apple's future plans. For example, they accurately revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro would have a closed battery with a metal casing months before it went on sale. However, their claim in August 2024 that the new AirPods Pro would be launched "soon" has not been confirmed, as AirPods Pro 3 has not yet been launched.

In another article today, Kosutami seemed to hint again that new AirPods Pro and new Apple Intelligence home accessories are coming soon. Apple is expected to launch a new smart home hub product this year, and it is also rumored that Apple is also developing FaceID doorbells and smart home cameras, which will be released in 2026 or later.
