Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM.N) plans to invest $100 billion in building chip manufacturing plants in the United States over the next four years, according to people familiar with the matter, under a plan that U.S. President Trump is expected to announce later on Monday local time. The investment will be used to build cutting-edge chip manufacturing facilities.
The expansion plan will advance the United States' long-sought goal of revitalizing the U.S. semiconductor industry.
TSMC established roots in Arizona in 2020, when the company said it would spend $12 billion to build a chip factory there. The company's ambitions for the site have since expanded rapidly, building two more factories on the same site with a total investment of $65 billion. The company's first factory began mass production late last year.
