Driven by the strength of its paid artificial intelligence software, OpenAI expects revenue to more than triple this year to $12.7 billion, from $3.7 billion last year. Additionally, OpenAI expects revenue to continue growing rapidly, more than doubling next year to $29.4 billion.

In the more than two years since OpenAI launched ChatGPT, the company has launched a series of subscription services for consumers and enterprises. In September last year, OpenAI said that the number of paid users of the company's version of ChatGPT reached 1 million.

While revenue is soaring, OpenAI is also facing huge costs for the chips, data centers and talent needed to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence systems. OpenAI does not expect to become cash flow positive until 2029, when revenue is expected to exceed $125 billion, people familiar with the matter said.
