Wednesday, video conferencing platformZoomA glitch occurs that prevents users from joining meetings and accessing their website. Network outages peaked just after 3 p.m. ET, and service appeared to be mostly back to normal about two hours later, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.

A Zoom spokesperson said in an email that the company was aware that "some users are experiencing service outages," but did not specify the cause of the problem. At 4:52 pm Eastern Time, Zoom posted a message on the X account saying that the service had been restored.


At the peak of the outage, Downdetector showed more than 60,000 reports of service outages on Wednesday afternoon. By 4:43 p.m. ET, the number of outage reports plummeted below 10,000 and continued to taper off throughout the afternoon.

The Zoom outage prompted mixed reactions on social media, with some remote workers cheering the cancellation of afternoon meetings.

Zoom is one of the most popular web conferencing tools. In addition to web conferencing capabilities, it also offers office team collaboration software.
