Three Gorges released the latest data saying,As of November 25, the freight volume passing through the Three Gorges Ship Lock in 2023 exceeded 156 million tons, breaking the historical record of freight volume in 2022.Since the beginning of this year, the Three Gorges Ship Lock has operated a total of 10,210 times, with 39,463 ships passing through and 16,939 passengers passing through. Since it was opened to navigation in 2003, the Three Gorges Ship Lock has been operating safely and efficiently for 20 years, with a cumulative cargo volume of 1.996 billion tons passing through the lock.

According to encyclopedia information,The Three Gorges double-line five-level ship lock is the second largest ship lock in the world. The total length is 6.4 kilometers, of which the main part of the ship lock is 1.6 kilometers and the approach channel is 4.8 kilometers.

The normal water storage level in front of the Three Gorges Dam is 175 meters above sea level, while the lowest navigation water level under the dam is 62 meters above sea level. This means that,The height difference between the upper and lower locks is 113 meters, and ships passing through the locks have to climb over the height of a 40-story building.

ps. The difference between shipping throughput and shipping freight volume:

Shipping throughput: refers to the self-weight of ships, weight of cargo, and converted weight of passengers passing through navigation buildings.

Shipping cargo volume: refers to the quantity of goods completed or required to be transported during transportation, excluding the dead weight of the ship and the converted weight of passengers.
