NVIDIA is about to launch GeForce RTX 4090 DGPU, which is fully compliant with US export policies, bringing flagship games back to China. NVIDIA appears to be launching a new GPU soon, judging from exclusive information gathered by source wccftech. This particular GPU is a product aimed at gamers and will be called the GeForce RTX 4090D (the "D" probably stands for dragon), which is exclusive to the Chinese market and intended to be a replacement for the GeForce RTX 4090. Since the latter's TPP (Total Processing Performance) rating exceeds 4,800 points, it has been banned from export by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
As you may already know, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 is one of several other GPUs banned from export to China under new U.S. government export control regulations. Due to the panic caused by the foreseeable shortage, the price of this graphics card has increased significantly, with the market price reaching around $8,000. Additionally, existing NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 stock has become so expensive for gamers that Chinese factories are taking the same chips and turning them into AI solutions.
In order to comply with US policies, gaming-oriented GPUs will apparently only be offered with lower TPP, which means we may see a new SKU with fewer cores to comply with the new regulations. This means that the gaming performance and AI capabilities of the GeForceRTX4090D will be slightly worse than the standard "GeForceRTX4090". We're referring to computing power here, not software/feature-level support, as these AI capabilities should be here to stay.
In terms of supply, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D will be provided by Chinese AIC partners in the same way as GeForce RTX 4090. The new "D" label will be clearly mentioned on the box and packaging, and the price is said to be in line with the GeForce RTX 4090 Non-DGPU's suggested retail price in China of $1,599 or 12,999 yuan. The good news is that NVIDIA's flagship gaming GPU is coming back to China, which is great for gamers. In addition to RTX4090D, NVIDIA has also prepared several other dedicated GPUs for AI computing that comply with export specifications for China and are expected to be launched in early 2024.
