In recent years, the United States has promoted re-industrialization and implemented "Made in America" policies that have affected the global economy. However, it is not easy for Americans to enter factories to drive screws. Motorola previously built a mobile phone factory in the United States, but had to close it a year later.

Former Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside recently recalled the difficulties of returning to manufacturing in the United States in an interview with the media. The company launched the slogan "Made in the United States" in 2013, hoping to regain the US mobile phone market from Samsung and Apple, so it built a mobile phone assembly plant in Texas, USA.
This factory had more than 4,000 employees at its peak, launched the flagship mobile phone Moto X, and also supported customization. However, the market performance was not as good as expected, and the company failed less than a year after its establishment.
Regarding the problems of U.S. mobile phone factories, Dennis Woodside mentioned the multiple problems they faced. The first was the supply chain. At that time, the mobile phone supply chain was decentralized. Batteries, screens, motherboards and other components were not located in the United States. They needed to be purchased from Asian component manufacturers and transported to the United States for assembly, resulting in high costs.
But the biggest test is not the parts, but the talent issue that has not been considered before. From recruiting employees to training employees to retaining employees, it is very difficult.
Dennis Woodside mentioned that mobile phones have hundreds of parts and are very small. They did not expect that most Americans are not used to this kind of work at all and have to be trained before they can work.
Even so, because American workers have so many other options, it ultimately becomes difficult to recruit the right talent. Moreover, Americans do not want to work in factories. Previous US survey reports have long shown that Americans do not accept the concept that they can live a good life by working in factories.
