According to a recent study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the unemployment rate for recent computer science majors is as high as 6.1% to 7.5%, more than twice the unemployment rate for biology and art history majors. A shocking article in the New York Times reveals the reality.

These personal stories are incredible. Manasi Mishra, 21, was promised a six-figure starting salary after graduating from Purdue University, but ended up getting just one interview at a Chipotle restaurant. (She didn't end up getting the job.)

Since graduating from Oregon State University in 2023, Zach Taylor has applied for nearly 6,000 technology positions, but only received 13 interviews and no offers. He was even turned down by McDonald's because of his "lack of experience."

Who is the culprit? Artificial intelligence programming is phasing out entry-level positions, while Amazon, Meta and Microsoft are slashing their jobs. Students say they are caught in an "AI vicious cycle" - where they use AI to apply at scale and companies use AI to automatically reject them, sometimes within minutes.

Thankfully, Mishra found a job after a successful cold application, thanks to some great TikTok posts she made about the terrible job market.
