Amazon-backed Anthropic said on Tuesday it would offer its Claude artificial intelligence model to the U.S. government for $1. Anthropic joins a growing list of artificial intelligence startups vying for federal contracts by proposing lucrative deals.

In the past few days, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude were all included in the list of government-approved artificial intelligence vendors.

"America's leadership in artificial intelligence requires that our government agencies have access to the most powerful and secure artificial intelligence tools available," said Dario Amodei, CEO of the company.

Rival OpenAI last week announced a similar proposal that would make ChatGPT Enterprise available to participating U.S. federal agencies for $1 per agency over the next year.
