US fast-food giant McDonald's will open the first branch of its new spin-off brand CosMc's this week in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The company plans to open 10 CosMc’s restaurants by the end of 2024, including nine in Texas. McDonald's will then spend a year analyzing the data to decide whether to expand the small restaurant chain.
The new brand takes its name from McDonald's mascot CosMc, who appeared in advertising in the late 1980s and early 1990s. CosMc is an alien from outer space who likes to eat McDonald's food.
McDonald's first disclosed in July this year that it would create CosMc's as a spin-off brand, but did not disclose further details about the plan. Earlier this week, photos of the Bolingbrook restaurant appeared on social platform X.
