The long-rumored construction of Tesla's Gigafactory in Mexico was confirmed on March 1 this year. At Tesla's annual investor day event that day, CEO Musk confirmed that they would build a factory in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to produce the next generation of electric vehicles. Although Tesla has not yet announced the size of the Mexican Gigafactory and the time it will start construction and production, in previous reports, some foreign media mentioned that it will be put into production around the first quarter of 2025.
Putting it into production around the first quarter of 2025 means that Tesla's super factory must speed up relevant approval matters, advance the construction of the factory and the installation of equipment in a timely manner, and then put it into production as planned.
Judging from the latest reports from foreign media, Tesla’s Mexico Gigafactory has received a construction permit.
In the report, foreign media revealed that Tesla obtained the construction permit for the Mexican Gigafactory in the form of a federal land use permit. Mexico’s Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Management Agency, an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife, contacted Tesla’s legal representative in Mexico earlier this week to inform him of the relevant permitting matters.
Foreign media reported that after obtaining the land use permit, Tesla can change the use of the relevant land and identify the relevant land as their Gigafactory project.
Judging from previous reports by foreign media, the scale and investment of Tesla's Mexico Gigafactory will be quite large, covering an area of nearly 4,200 acres, or approximately 25,495.2 acres, which is much larger than the factories they have currently built or under construction. The investment is expected to exceed US$5 billion, and some people familiar with the matter have revealed that it may be close to US$10 billion.
