According to the Beijing transportation department, on the evening of December 14, two trains on the Changping Line of the Beijing Metro were involved in a rear-end collision, causing injuries to some passengers. A total of 515 people were sent to the hospital for examination, including 102 fractures. According to reports, at 18:57 on December 14, two trains rear-ended each other in the upbound section from Xierqi to Life Science Park on the Changping Metro Line, causing some injuries to some passengers.

A total of 515 people were sent to the hospital for examination in the accident, 102 of whom suffered fractures, and no one died. As of 6:00 on the 15th, 423 people had left the hospital, 25 were under observation, and 67 were hospitalized.

According to a preliminary investigation, the cause of the accident was that the track in front of the train was degraded due to snowy tracks and the train in front had to brake and stop. The train behind was located in a downhill section and the snowy weather caused the train to slide and fail to brake effectively, resulting in a rear-end collision with the train in front.

At present, the Beijing Municipal Government has established an accident investigation team on the Changping Line of the Metro. It will further identify the cause of the accident, evaluate emergency response work, learn lessons from the accident, seriously investigate responsibilities, and make rectifications.

Location: Between Xierqi and Qinghe Station

Fault description: The 24th train of the Changping Line of the Beijing Metro was running to the Xierqi Metro-Qinghe Station section. It stopped with the brake for some reason. The car behind CP032-6 rear-ended the CP024-1 car at high speed. After on-site inspection, it was found that the driver's cab of the collision section was greatly deformed, and the full train hook buffer of the rear-ended car (CP024) was fully activated, and at the same time, the entire train hook crushing tube was triggered, exceeding the coupler energy absorption limit. A total of four sections of the rear car CP032 car 5/6, and the front car CP024 car 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4 were broken, and the CP032 car derailed at the 5/6 section. Preliminary judgment is that it is not a coupler failure.

The first phase of the Changping Line of the Metro was opened in 2010. The signals adopt the CBTC signaling system provided by Traffic Control Technology Co., Ltd., and the vehicles use the SFM13 6-car B-type train produced by Sifang Company, with a design speed of 100km/h. The 024 car and 032 car that caused the accident were put into operation in 2015. The weather conditions at the time of the accident were light snow and the temperature was minus 6 degrees Celsius.

On December 14, 2023, train 059 of Metro Changping Line skidded outside the upbound platform of the Life Science Park due to snowfall, and the signal system was downgraded. Affected by train 059, train 024 stopped normally in front of the SQ4 signal machine and waited. At this time, train 032 departed from the Xierqi upstream platform in manual driving mode under ATP protection. Emergency braking was triggered when the speed was 92km/h. Due to the snowfall, the track adhesion coefficient decreased, and the braking distance of the train became longer, causing train 032 to collide with train 024, which in turn caused 024 to be damaged after being hit.

Due to the weather, the front car 059 skidded, the middle car 024 stopped and waited, and the rear car 032 started running normally. However, due to the rain and snow, the brakes were not able to brake in time, and the car rear-ended car 024.
