You may have just read the headline of this news once at the end of last month, so the brief but obviously fed-up statement from Konstaintin Govorun, head of public relations at War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment, is easy to understand. "Our moderators quickly nuke the post, delete the files and ban the user. This is probably the 12th time this has happened!" he wrote.
His statement came from an interview with the overseas military media Task&Purpose. Last week, this game forum with a "fine tradition" leaked another military secret. According to records on Wikipedia, 10 related incidents have occurred on the "War Thunder" game forum, but it may also include unrecorded incidents.
The leaked document is the flight manual for the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk, a US military stealth fighter attack aircraft. Although it is said to be a "military secret," this flight manual is not actually a secret because the F-117 Nighthawk was launched in the 1980s and was retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2008. Last month we reported on a manual for the EU Typhoon fighter DA7 posted on the forum. The manual was also not entirely confidential, but many of its contents were only available to EU countries.
Even though these manuals are not "confidential," they are still not freely available on the Internet. In an interview with Task&Purpose, the U.S. Air Force said companies should try to avoid allowing users to post material that is “harmful to public safety and national security.”
In fact, the F-117 flight manual can be directly searched through the Internet, but because the forum did actually publish many real military secrets before, the developers have since strictly prohibited the sharing of all similar information.
