Toyota said in a statement on Wednesday that it would suspend shipments of all cars after a vehicle investigation by subsidiary Daihatsu Motor found that most of its vehicles had falsified safety crash test data.Toyota has found about 174 violations in 64 models, including some sold under the Toyota brand.
Daihatsu Industrial Company recently announced on its official website that because a third-party committee found 174 illegal operations by Daihatsu during its review and supervision, the company will suspend the shipment of all models currently being produced at home and abroad.
It was confirmed that 64 models were involved in illegal operations. In addition to Daihatsu brand cars, they also included cars produced for Toyota and Mazda.
The company stated,Reasons for illegal operations include "the work schedule is too tight and rigid, causing great pressure", "over-responsibility on site and lack of participation by management", "management only focuses on short-term development and turns a blind eye to violations", etc.
In order to ensure that such problems will not happen again, Dafa will re-examine the certification application process, conduct fundamental reforms to the corporate culture, and put compliance awareness first.
According to the report, Toyota's investigation mainly focused on the car's airbag control unit, and the results showed that the airbag control unit used in the crash test was different from the airbag control unit actually sold.
Toyota said the practice was illegal, although other testing units were later found to be in compliance with industry standards.
In fact, this is not the first time Daihatsu Motor has violated regulations. Earlier this year,Daihatsu Corporation has also exposed illegal operations involving car door trims and car side impact safety tests.Toyota still has a lot of work to do in terms of company compliance.
