According to ComputerBase,Counterfeit Samsung 990 Pro SSDs have begun to appear in the European market. This is the second time this model has been exposed to fraud after Japan.According to senior members of the ComputerBase community, I purchased two Samsung 990 Pro from an online store in Austria in early April. The outer packaging looked highly similar to the original product at first glance, but after comparing it with the original product, I found that the printing quality was obviously poor, and the position of the CE logo and other symbols on the back was deviated from the original product.
After being disassembled, the flaws are more obvious. The SSD uses a blue PCB, while the genuine Samsung 990 Pro always uses a black PCB.
After connecting the fake product to the computer, software such as CrystalDiskInfo can identify the device, but the storage capacity and firmware ID are inconsistent with the genuine product. Samsung's official tool Samsung Magician marks it as a "non-Samsung product."
In the previous counterfeiting cases exposed in Japan, the fakes used cheap SSDs to replace Samsung packaging. The product itself was still usable, but it was sold at a high price like Samsung 990 Pro.The fake products in this German case did not have normal functions at all, and the counterfeiting methods were even more crude.
Austrian retailers said they would trace supply channels, and it was unclear how the fake goods entered the market.
