Microsoft has released a new version of Windows 1123H2 installation media that contains a number of fixes, including a fix for an issue that broke Narrator functionality. The updated installation media is available through the Windows 11 download page and the Media Creation Tool, which only recently became available in version 23H2.

Windows 1123H2 is the latest version of the operating system and it comes with a host of new features such as Microsoft Copilot and a new File Explorer. At the same time, it also caused a number of issues for some people, including a lack of drag-and-drop support in the File Explorer address bar. Additionally, it creates a Narrator problem.

The new ISO file on Microsoft's download page contains the December 2023 security updates.

Updated Windows 11 installation media

Microsoft said that users can also go to the "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 Devices" section on its Windows 11 software download page to obtain the upgraded .ISO file.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the new ISO file is marked with "v2", highlighting its importance. The company did not explain other changes in the updated installation media, but it can confirm that the new media files also include improved Copilot. Users will experience fewer issues using Copilot, but may still experience issues on multiple monitors.

Microsoft said that after upgrading through Windows 11 ISO, icons may move unexpectedly between monitors, or some users may find that the alignment of icons has changed. But this happens on multi-monitor devices trying to use Microsoft Copilot.

Likewise, we don't know if Microsoft plans to release another version of the installation media to solve emerging problems, such as Wi-Fi not working or slow transmission, printing metadata errors, etc. The Windows installation media is expected to be updated again in February, following the release of upcoming security patches.

According to a support document, Microsoft is investigating multiple known issues in Windows 1123H2. These include installation issues affecting some users, Copilot messing up taskbar icons on different monitors, and a bug that causes color rendering issues.

Microsoft says it plans to fix an issue where COLRv1 doesn't render correctly and affects the appearance of emojis that resemble a 3D appearance. A fix will likely be released in the coming weeks via an optional update in January or February.
