Apple (Apple) recently formally filed a legal lawsuit against the artificial intelligence company OpenAI, accusing the company that developed ChatGPT of illegally stealing Apple’s trade secrets in the process of developing competitive hardware devices. This marks a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations between the two technology giants since they reached technical cooperation in 2024.

Apple pointed out in the complaint that many former Apple employees who had previously resigned and joined OpenAI illegally took away the company's confidential technical information when they changed positions. Apple claims that OpenAI is currently working hard to develop its own brand of hardware devices, aiming to get rid of its reliance on third-party channels and directly reach end consumers. These research and development efforts illegally use Apple's intellectual property rights. In response to the above accusations, OpenAI has issued a statement publicly and firmly denying it.
Analysts pointed out that the lawsuit completely declared the end of the honeymoon period of the early cooperation between the two companies. In 2024, Apple reached a strategic agreement with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT into Apple's Siri voice assistant ecosystem. However, as OpenAI's strategic focus extends to the field of hardware equipment manufacturing, direct conflict between the two parties in the core track of consumer electronics is inevitable.
