In order to improve the user experience and enhance the community atmosphere of the platform, social media platform X recently made a slight adjustment to its algorithm. According to X product lead Nikita Bier on Monday, the core of this adjustment is to increase the visibility of content posted by users' "mutual followers" (that is, accounts that users follow and also follow the user).

Bill explained that the previous platform algorithm was deficient in this data dimension, which resulted in users' "friends" appearing less frequently in the reply area. This made the comment area often filled with quarrels between strangers, making users feel like they were in a "battlefield." Through this algorithm optimization, X hopes to make the reply area look more like a community rather than a digital abyss full of radical comments from strangers.
In addition, Bill also pointed out that this adjustment will help related interest clusters form more easily, which is what many users have been asking for.
In recent years, X has made frequent moves in terms of product functions, trying to build the platform into a core hub for creators. Earlier this year, X adjusted the account compensation mechanism, aiming to encourage original content creation rather than simple aggregation and transfer; earlier this month, the platform also launched a built-in video editor, further reducing the difficulty of creators' work on the platform.
While X is working to adjust the algorithm atmosphere, its competitor Threads, owned by Meta, is also adopting a similar strategy. Threads has previously launched the "Your Algo" function, which allows users to privately control the content of information flows. The platform currently has 500 million monthly active users, showing a positive trend in building differentiated competition in the community.
