As the core open source cross-platform software for running Windows games and applications, the Wine R&D team recently officially launched the latest bi-weekly development version, Wine 11.14. The project is currently progressing steadily towards the stable version of Wine 12.0, scheduled to be launched in January 2027, and this update brings a number of cutting-edge features and improvements.

WoW64 mode has been running on Linux systems for some time before, allowing 32-bit Windows software to run in a 64-bit Linux environment with only pure 64-bit system libraries, without relying on traditional 32-bit multi-lib support. In the latest Wine 11.14 version, the FreeBSD platform also welcomes initial WoW64 mode support.
Another notable update is the addition of support for Start menu icon display to the Wine Explorer code. In the merge request recently submitted by developer Andrea Faulds, the corresponding icons can be rendered normally and displayed next to each menu item in the start menu.
In addition, Wine 11.14 adds 7.1 format conversion capabilities in DirectSound, support for the AES-GMAC encryption algorithm in BCrypt, and fixes 21 known flaws discovered in the past two weeks. The software affected by this fix ranges from office applications such as Adobe Reader to well-known games such as Heroes of the Storm, Age of Empires I, and Age of Empires II.
