With the latest generation of operating system testing completed, Apple officially pushed the macOS Tahoe 26.6 system update to the public today. Since macOS 27 is in the testing phase, this update does not introduce major new features, but focuses on underlying performance optimizations, security improvements, and bug fixes.
For users using older versions of the system, Apple has also released macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and macOS Sonoma 14.7.7 simultaneously to continue to provide necessary security protection.
According to the official release notes, macOS Tahoe 26.6 has made a series of detailed adjustments and technical improvements. The key change is that Apple has announced that it will deprecate the encrypted HFS+ file system and is expected to completely remove support for it in the subsequent macOS 28. At the same time, the update fixes a display bug regarding deprecation notifications—previously, when system plug-ins such as Color Picker loaded x86 code into the host process, the system might mistakenly identify the relevant application as only supporting Intel architecture.
Additionally, this update fixes an issue where HealthKit could return abnormally high values due to overlapping sample times when processing weighted average statistics for discrete quantity type data (such as resting heart rate). For social communications, HDR screenshots sent to other users in the Messages app no longer have corrupted or garbled images. Users can currently check for and complete system upgrades through the Software Update page in System Preferences.
