According to the official public account of China National Nuclear Corporation,The average capability factor of the nine nuclear power units at the Qinshan Nuclear Power Base reached 96.8% in 2023. According to data released by the World Association of Nuclear Power Operators (WANO), this performance ranks first among nuclear power bases with 6 units or more in the world, setting a new record for the safe and stable operation of similar bases.
It is reported that the unit capability factor refers to the ratio of the power generation that can be obtained within a certain period of time to the reference power generation. It is recognized by the international nuclear power industry as one of the important indicators that best reflects the level of nuclear power safety management and measures the safe power generation capacity of the unit.
This indicator is mainly used to measure the availability of nuclear power units and monitor whether the power station can maintain high unit reliability.
In addition, multi-unit nuclear power bases are affected by many factors such as the nuclear power operating unit's multi-unit overhaul plan and reasonable allocation of resources. The average capacity factor can better test the operation and management level of the nuclear power plant.
As the birthplace of my country's independent nuclear power, Qinshan Nuclear Power is known as the "glory of the country" and has been operating safely for more than 30 years. A total of 9 units are in operation, with a total installed capacity of more than 6.66 million kilowatts. It is the nuclear power base with the largest number of nuclear power units and the most diverse reactor types in my country.
In recent years, Qinshan Nuclear Power's operating performance has increased year by year, with the average unit capacity factor exceeding 90% for seven consecutive years. In 2023, it completed the annual power generation task ahead of schedule, setting a new record high and achieving "nine consecutive increases" in annual power generation since it was fully completed and put into operation.
Up to now, Qinshan Nuclear Power has safely generated more than 800 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 740 million tons and planting trees in an area covering an area of 500 West Lake scenic spots.
