LG Display showed off a new OLED display that could soon appear in high-end gaming monitors. The 1440p panel measures 27 inches, has a response time of just 0.03 milliseconds, and a refresh rate of 480Hz, making it the fastest OLED display to date.

LG's new screen is even better than the screen on the 32-inch OLED "dual frequency" gaming monitor (32GS95UE) it released in December. While this monitor also offers a refresh rate of up to 480Hz, you have to turn the monitor down to 1080p to enjoy this speed.

This also gives LG Display the confidence to compete with the panels recently released by Samsung's display division, which have a slightly lower refresh rate of 360Hz and the same resolution of 1440p. Samsung already uses this panel in its new 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 gaming monitor, and MSI and Dell may also use it in their upcoming monitors.

LG Display said the panel uses the company's "META technology", which provides higher brightness and wider viewing angles. The company also claims that it emits "the lowest levels of blue light in the industry."

As for whether any game companies will adapt to LG Display’s new panels, it can only be said that it is still too early. LG Display plans to release its 27-inch OLED 480Hz panel in the first half of this year, and will display its "full range" of OLED gaming monitors during CES 2024, ranging in size from 27 inches to 45 inches.

Two of the largest monitor manufacturers are developing OLED panels that prioritize high refresh rates, which bodes well for us to see more gaming monitors using this technology soon.
