Microsoft has made it clear that it will fully support artificial intelligence and will provide artificial intelligence technology in Windows 11 and subsequent versions as well as Microsoft's own applications as much as possible. It’s just that I never expected that this Notepad, which was almost abandoned by Microsoft, would now also gain AI functionality. Microsoft plans to provide AI smart writing functions for Notepad to help users who have used Notepad for a long time record content more easily.

Windows enthusiast @PhantomOcean3 discovered something new in the Notepad beta today. The beta version number is 11.2312.17.0.

The new version comes with a menu called CoWriter, which includes functions such as rewriting, shortening, lengthening, changing tone, changing format, etc. The Co in CoWriter most likely refers to the Copilot assistant.

So the conclusion is that Microsoft will introduce Windows Copilot to the Notepad application to provide users with an artificial intelligence-driven assistant, so that users can experience AI technology when using Notepad, which has a relatively single function.

What’s more funny is that Microsoft actually made the CoWriter function the same as the Bing image creator. Some strings show that using this function will consume points. The user’s points are automatically reset every day, which means that once the points are used up that day, they cannot be used.

It is unclear when this new feature will be released, but judging from Microsoft's current update speed, it is estimated that this feature will be tested in Windows Insider soon.
