Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday that company Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited a sixth-generation mobile communications technology research laboratory that day, his first public appearance this year. Samsung said in a statement that Lee visited Samsung Research Laboratory in Seoul and discussed the technological progress of 6G telecommunications and the prospects for international standards.

During his visit, Lee Jae-yong emphasized the need to secure core 6G technology, saying "our survival and future depend on securing new technologies."

Samsung said in a statement that it expects 6G mobile technology to be commercialized around 2030.

Just the day before, Samsung released preliminary data showing that operating profit fell 35% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of last year, affected by continued weak demand in its main business, the semiconductor sector.
