The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded GlobalFoundries (GF) a new 10-year contract to supply securely manufactured, U.S.-made semiconductors for a wide range of critical aerospace and defense applications. With an initial allocation of $17.3 million this month and a total spending cap of $3.1 billion over 10 years, the new contract provides the Department of Defense and its contractors with the opportunity to use semiconductor technology produced by GF at its U.S. factories.

These GF facilities are certified to the Department of Defense's highest security level (Trusted Vendor Category 1A), implement rigorous proven security measures to protect sensitive information, and manufacture chips with the highest level of integrity to ensure they are not compromised.

In addition to securing chip manufacturing for systems used by the Department of Defense on land, air, sea and space, the new contract provides the Department of Defense and its contractors with access to GF’s robust design ecosystem, IP libraries, early access to new technologies in development, rapid and efficient prototyping and full volume manufacturing. The contract was awarded through the Department of Defense’s Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) Trusted Access Program Office (TAPO).

Mike Cadigan, chief enterprise and government executive, said: "GF is honored to begin the next chapter of our decades-long partnership with the U.S. government and continue to serve as a leading supplier of critical chips for secure manufacturing in the U.S. aerospace and defense industry. This partnership provides the opportunity to securely manufacture DoD projects. Scalable and efficient way to gain ‘front door access’ to advanced technologies In this work, GF is accredited to provide the appropriate level of security shielding protection required for each project, strict export control processing (such as ITAR), to the highest level of globally recognized microelectronics manufacturing security, Trusted Category 1A.”

The new contract is the third consecutive 10-year contract between the Ministry of Defense and the GF Trusted Foundry business team and the latest milestone in the long-standing partnership between the Ministry of Defense and the company.
