X is planning to shut down the Circles feature, which lets you share posts with a limited group of people instead of all of your followers. Circles will be closed until October 31, the company said in an announcement Thursday.
"After this date, you will not be able to create new posts that are limited to your circles, nor will you be able to add people to your circles. However, you can remove people from your circles," X wrote in a post on its Help Center, which also gave instructions on how to do so.
Twitter (not But in April this year, some posts targeting Circles began to appear on the platform's "ForYou" timeline, which is obviously not ideal if you want your posts to be seen only by your carefully selected circle audience.
X did not explain the reason for turning off the feature. But the company has been heavily promoting its Facebook Groups-like community feature lately—perhaps it decided that Circles and Communities were too similar and kept both around.
