Chipmaker Intel plans to focus on future technologies such as artificial intelligence and core chips, also known as "chips." Intel is one of the few semiconductor companies that both designs and manufactures its own chips, while rivals such as Qualcomm and Apple rely on contract manufacturers for their chip designs. According to foreign media reports, Intel is integrating a series of new technologies such as core chips and artificial intelligence, and is formulating a strict roadmap for manufacturing progress.
Intel has long pursued cutting-edge chips to power its data centers and consumer PC products. At last year's Meteor Lake chip launch in New York, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger hinted at the company's future direction, noting that the company is expected to integrate five new nodes within four years, including Intel7, Intel4, Intel3, Intel20A and Intel18A.
Foreign media reported that Intel is focused on integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and core chips. The company's core chips technology can eliminate the difference between server and client products, allowing the company to assemble chips according to customer needs. This allows the company to quickly produce custom chips for specific industries.
Gelsinger said at a press conference that as custom chips become a trend after 2025, the timed release of server and PC chips may become less important by then.
At the beginning of 2021, Intel revitalized its chip foundry manufacturing business and renamed it "Intel Foundry Services" (IFS), with the goal of competing with TSMC and Samsung.
Previously, foreign media reported that under the leadership of CEO Pat Gelsinger, Intel invested billions of dollars to build factories on three continents to restore its dominance in chip manufacturing and better compete with rival AMD.
In December 2023, the Israeli Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and the Taxation Authority issued a joint statement announcing that Intel would invest US$25 billion in a new chip factory in Israel. The factory will be dedicated to producing advanced chips for companies such as Apple and Nvidia.
In addition to a new chip factory in Israel, Intel will build new chip factories in eastern Germany and central Ohio.
