[Barclays report: DDR4 spot price rose 24% in three months, chip specifications downgraded to cope with shortages, attracting attention] On October 13, Barclays’ latest report showed that the spot price of DDR5 memory in October increased by 8% month-on-month, and 20% within three months; the previous generation DDR4 increased by 4% month-on-month, but the increase reached 24% within three months. Barclays also pointed out in the report that chip designers are continuously reducing chip specifications in response to shortages. Customers lowering chip specifications is only a temporary measure to deal with chip supply shortages, but the long-term trend of this strategy is worth watching.
