[Newly designed porous electrodes improve flow battery performance] September 4th, scientists from the University of Waterloo in Canada drew inspiration from natural structures and redesigned the porous electrode, a key component of the redox flow battery. The new electrode enables the electrolyte to move more smoothly and efficiently inside the battery, thus promoting the energy storage and energy release reactions to proceed more fully. This design is expected to make flow batteries more convenient and safer to store large amounts of electricity generated by wind and solar power. Relevant papers were published in the latest issue of Energy Storage Magazine.
