Abstract:
The countdown to the release of the live-action "Street Fighter" movie is underway, and Callina Liang, the Chinese-Canadian actress who plays Chun-Li, is embarking on an intensive promotional schedule. Recently, she shared a new promotional photo, which quickly sparked discussions online.
To play the role of Chun-Li, Callina Liang underwent an almost masochistic body transformation. It only took three months from the confirmation of casting to the start of filming. During this period, she performed two hours of Taekwondo, Muay Thai and martial arts training every day, combined with a lot of leg strength training, and consumed about 4,000 calories a day. During the muscle-building stage, she was required to eat every two hours and eat 12 eggs a day. In the end, the circumference of her legs increased by 6.5 centimeters, showing muscle lines that fit Chun-Li's iconic kicking movements. She also downloaded all previous Street Fighter games to PS5, recorded all of Chun-Li's moves with her mobile phone, and studied the rhythm of "Split Kicks" frame by frame in slow motion.
The "Street Fighter" live-action movie will be released simultaneously in North America and many places around the world on October 16, 2026. It tells the story of the street fighters Long and Ken who used to fight side by side in 1993, and were recalled to the ring of the "World Series of Fighting" due to the appearance of the mysterious woman Chun-Li. The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai and has a very luxurious cast: Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo plays Ken, Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian plays the villain M. Bison, WWE superstar Roman Reigns plays Akuma, Jason Momoa plays Blanka, and 50 Cent plays Balrog.
