AMD CEO Lisa Su to meet with Samsung Semiconductor chiefs to address memory shortage

📅 2026-10-07

Abstract:

AMD CEO Lisa Su plans to meet with Samsung Electronics’ head of semiconductor business and vice chairman Jeon Young-hyun on Wednesday. This is the latest face-to-face exchange between two key figures in the AI industry. People familiar with the matter revealed that Su Zifeng will hold talks during her visit to South Korea, but no specific details were disclosed. Samsung and AMD declined to comment.

The meeting comes at a time when the global electronics industry is facing widespread memory product shortages, which are restricting the expansion of AI infrastructure and services. Memory prices continue to soar and have become one of the major costs for data center operators. In March this year, AMD and Samsung reached a supply agreement for next-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced storage chips.

This is Su Zifeng’s second visit to Seoul in seven months. South Korea occupies a key position in the global technology ecosystem. It is not only a major supplier of AI hardware but also an important consumer market. The country is pushing companies including Samsung and SK Hynix to invest approximately US$880 billion in building digital infrastructure and AI data centers.

Samsung and SK Hynix supply HBM required for most of the world’s advanced AI. At the same time, Korean telecommunications, manufacturing and Internet platform companies are actively increasing investment in AI data centers and next-generation enterprise services. This high-level meeting highlighted the urgent need for both parties to deepen cooperation and ensure the stability of the AI industry chain amid tight memory supply.
