Apple is said to have developed a "close and control" function for LG smart home accessories, and the device panel can also be opened from the Smart Island

Abstract:

A whistleblower who has long released clues about Apple's features claims that Apple is developing a proximity control function called "Proximity Control" for rumored LG smart home accessories. After the user touches or approaches the accessory with the iPhone, Smart Island may display a device control prompt. Click "Open Control" to enter the corresponding panel; if the user is close to a camera or smart doorbell, the interface is said to directly open the camera screen. It does not turn on the lights, unlock the door or change the temperature immediately after touching it, but allows the user to quickly open the control interface of the corresponding device.

According to the tipster, this function may rely on NFC tags to identify accessories, and use the device identification in Matter data to allow iOS to determine which device the user is close to; accessories will also broadcast Bluetooth low-power signals to support Apple's close-range control function. It is said that iPhones and iPads without Smart Island will display notification prompts for about 30 seconds. Users can also turn off this feature in the "Home" App. The exact setup and interactions have yet to be finalized.

Bloomberg previously reported that Apple is working with LG to develop a series of smart home products. The rumored devices include video doorbells, smart thermostats, door locks, indoor and outdoor cameras, and floodlight cameras. Some products are expected to support Matter and Thread. Another previously leaked feature is pairing by tapping an accessory via NFC, allowing setup to be completed even when the device is not powered on. Apple has not confirmed the existence of these products or features, and relevant details currently mainly come from FCC documents, iOS beta code clues and social media revelations.

The whistleblower said that the code for "Proximity Control" first appeared in iOS 27.0, and related options appeared in the iOS 27.2 beta version; he also reminded that this feature is still in the development process, and the official version may be adjusted. Apple plans to hold a smart home-themed "Welcome Home" event on October 13. It is expected that the company may introduce new home hub devices, but there is currently no official confirmation as to whether LG accessories will be unveiled at the event.
