Abstract:

Apple officially pushed the iOS 27.2 system update to iPhone and iPad users on October 27. This update focuses on expanding the language support range of Siri AI, enhancing memory capabilities, while bringing a series of new features to products such as messaging, FaceTime, podcasts, and folding screen iPhone Duo, and includes more than 160 security fixes.

According to information released by Apple, Siri AI has now added beta support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. After the upgrade, Siri AI can remember the content of the user's previous conversations and reply based on historical information. In recent years, the ability to remember user preferences and past communication content has become an important direction in the development of artificial intelligence assistants.

In addition to generating suggestions and answers on its own, Siri AI can now call upon more sources of information, including photo attachments in the Messages app, calendar event participant information, voice message content, Safari browsing history, and reading lists. Apple also allows users to specify which application data should not be included in Siri AI's memory.

Although the foldable screen phone iPhone Duo has recently attracted attention due to some users reporting screen problems, Apple has still added a number of features to the device through this update. iOS 27.2 provides Apple Pencil support for iPhone Duo for the first time, which can be used with the stylus in applications such as Notes and Preview. In addition, the system has also added an Edge Light function, allowing users to better highlight their facial display during video calls.

FaceTime also received an important upgrade. The new version of the system adds the Dual Capture dual shooting function, allowing users to live broadcast the picture through the front and rear cameras at the same time during a group call. At the same time, users can also invite third-party sign language interpreters or real-time subtitle service providers to join during the call.

In terms of the "Messages" application, iOS 27.2 can intelligently identify message content and suggest users to convert relevant information into reminders or calendar events. The shared album feature has also been enhanced, and users can now modify image captions, add comments, and view expiration reminders for shared albums.

The podcast application has optimized its interface and content recommendation, which will highlight the latest program content of the programs that users have followed, and also display the episodes currently being listened to.

The sports event viewing experience has also been improved. Apple has introduced the Multiview multi-viewing feature previously available on Apple TV to iPhone devices. US users can watch up to four live sports events at the same time, including Major League Soccer (MLS), Formula One (F1), and Major League Baseball (MLB) "Friday Night Baseball" double-header live broadcasts. When watching an F1 race, users can also view multiple race views at the same time.

In terms of security updates, Apple said that iOS 27.2 contains more than 160 security vulnerability fixes. At the same time, many fixes have also been ported back to the old version of the system so that users still using iOS 26 can also receive security protection. Apple data shows that currently about 80% of iPhone users are still running iOS 26.

In addition, Apple has also pushed a special security patch for iOS 18, which will be released as early as 2024. Apple said the vulnerability may have been used to launch "extremely sophisticated attacks" against specific target users, affecting system versions prior to the release of iOS 27. However, Apple did not disclose the identity of the attacker or related technical details. The industry generally believes that when Apple uses such expressions, it often means that the vulnerability may have been exploited by government-level spyware or law enforcement forensics tools.

With the release of iOS 27.2, Apple has further strengthened its artificial intelligence capabilities, multi-tasking application experience and system security protection levels, and continues to cover some critical security updates to older versions of devices.
