Abstract:
Apple announced that it will further improve the App Store application age rating system. Starting from November 16, 2026, developers must clearly disclose whether the app contains "location sharing" or "dating and relationships" related features when submitting the app age rating questionnaire, so that the system can assign a more accurate age rating to the app.

According to Apple's latest developer requirements, "location sharing" refers to the ability of users to share real-world geographical location information with other individuals or groups; "Dating and Relationships" covers functions that help users establish love, friendship, or emotional relationships, whether the object is a real user or a virtual AI partner that provides love, romance, or emotionally interactive content.
Apple stated that the minimum age rating for any app that includes a "Dating and Relationships" feature will be set to 18 years and above. This means that in addition to traditional dating software, some applications that provide virtual lovers, AI companions or emotional interaction services will also be subject to this rule.
For apps with location sharing capabilities, age ratings will be adjusted based on regulations in different countries and regions. In some markets, such features may not change the original minimum age rating of the app; however, in Brazil, according to local regulatory requirements, apps that include location sharing features must receive an A16 rating, while apps that include dating and relationship features require an A18 rating.
Apple also pointed out that location sharing applications in certain special scenarios may receive lower ratings. For example, developers of family security applications specifically designed for location sharing between parents and children can apply to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security for official rating review to obtain age rating results that are more suitable for their usage scenarios.
According to the schedule announced by Apple, developers can complete relevant declarations when submitting updated versions of their apps or modifying the age rating questionnaire. All eligible apps must complete the application for "location sharing" and "dating and relationships" functions no later than January 12, 2027, otherwise it may affect subsequent app updates and review processes.
In recent years, as the online protection of minors and the supervision of digital platforms continue to strengthen globally, Apple has continuously adjusted the App Store age rating mechanism. This new reporting requirement is seen as part of its efforts to further strengthen the protection of children and adolescents, and also reflects the increasing attention of regulatory agencies to location data sharing, online dating, and AI emotional interaction services.
