Abstract:
Apple will further develop the smart home device market, including cooperating with LG Electronics to develop a series of accessories such as doorbells and thermostats. People familiar with the matter said the products will become part of Apple's new smart home ecosystem. Apple plans to release new smart home devices on October 13, including the first update of HomePod mini since its launch in 2020, as well as a new TV set-top box.

Products developed by Apple and LG also include smart door locks, indoor security cameras, outdoor security cameras and floodlight cameras. Although the accessories are jointly developed by the two companies, they will use the LG brand, with LG responsible for production and product support.
Apple has adopted a similar strategy before, quietly cooperating with companies such as Logitech and Foxconn's Belkin to develop products sold under other brands. Through such so-called "second-party suppliers", Apple can quickly expand its ecosystem without having to bear the cost and complexity of producing and supporting many accessories on its own.
