Abstract:
ASML, a Dutch lithography machine manufacturer, launched the construction of the new Brainport Industries Campus North in Eindhoven on September 8. The project will be developed in phases, with a total construction area of approximately 350,000 square meters. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2029, can accommodate at least 3,000 employees, and introduce a new production model for TWINSCAN lithography systems.
The first phase integrates production, logistics and office activities
BIC North is the second large-scale industrial park built by ASML in the Brainport area of the Netherlands. After the project is completed, it will form three major local operation bases together with the company's De Run 1000 headquarters park and De Run 6000/7000 industrial park in Veldhofen.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2029 and can accommodate at least 3,000 employees. It will mainly receive teams moving in from ASML's existing office and production locations. The park concentrates production, logistics and supporting office activities in the same location to shorten the connection distance between different links.
The entire project adopts a phased construction method, with a long-term job capacity of up to 20,000. The actual construction scale depends on ASML's subsequent business needs. The company did not disclose the amount of project investment in the announcement, nor did it indicate that all positions were newly recruited, so 20,000 should be understood as the planned capacity of the park.
"Mobile Factory" is used to expand TWINSCAN system production capacity
The core facilities of the new campus include what ASML calls a "mobile factory." The factory will adopt a next-generation manufacturing model for TWINSCAN lithography systems and reorganize the material, module production and equipment installation processes to improve production speed, efficiency and scale.
ASML stated that this model refers to mature production methods in the automotive and aerospace industries, reducing pauses and handling in the production process while maintaining quality standards. The new park will provide the company with additional manufacturing space and expansion flexibility, but ASML has not announced specific production capacity targets for various lithography systems at BIC North.
President and CEO Christophe Fouquet attributed the expansion to growing demand from the global semiconductor industry. He said BIC North will complement the company's existing office and manufacturing capabilities in the Brainport area and provide space to serve global customers.
The project has gone through two stages: site preparation and main construction
The Eindhoven City Council approved relevant development arrangements in March this year, and the local government subsequently launched land consolidation, road and ecological supporting projects. The ceremony held on September 8 marked the official launch of the main construction phase of the ASML park. Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and representatives from the government, customers, suppliers and scientific research institutions attended.
Project advancement relies on the simultaneous expansion of local infrastructure, including transportation, electricity, housing and talent supply. ASML said the company is participating in long-term projects such as local talent development, affordable housing and equal opportunities through public-private partnerships to support the expansion of enterprises and the Brainport industrial cluster.
