iOS 27.2 adds age verification function to verify adult status by taking a selfie

Abstract:

Apple has added a new feature to the iPhone.

Apple has added a selfie age verification method in iOS 27.2. When users need to confirm whether they are adults, they can take a selfie and let the system estimate their age. They do not have to take out their ID card or use a credit card to verify.

It is understood that as more and more countries and regions require age verification for users, iPhone users may need to confirm whether they are of age when creating an Apple account, updating the system, downloading applications or adjusting some settings.

According to 9to5Mac, currently, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Texas in the United States have implemented relevant age verification requirements in some scenarios.

Previously, Apple has supported credit card verification, scanning ID documents, etc. This time iOS 27.2 has added a selfie option, which is equivalent to providing users with another option.

The specific operation is not complicated.

After the user selects the selfie verification, he needs to align his face with the viewfinder, and then slowly turn his head to the right, left, up and down according to the on-screen prompts to complete facial collection in four directions.

The system then analyzes the facial image through an age estimation model to determine whether the user has reached adult age.

In terms of privacy, Apple said that the age estimation model will run locally on the device and in a private cloud computing environment.

Selfie images will not be open to anyone, including Apple itself.

After age verification is completed, the relevant selfie photos will be deleted immediately and will not be retained in any form.
