📅 2026-10-12

Abstract:

The LineageOS project recently released the 32nd update log, officially announcing the official version of LineageOS 24.0 based on Android 17. While completing the migration of the underlying code, the new version also updates multiple system applications, improves the system upgrade process, and launches a WebUSB-based browser flash tool to lower the threshold for system installation and maintenance.

Based on Android 17, security updates are being promoted simultaneously:

The project team stated that version 24.0 has reached the same level of functionality and stability as version 23.2. The first batch of supported devices will gradually receive official builds, and more models will be added in the future based on the maintainer's readiness. The current new version has merged the security patches from August 2025 to October 2026 into the 18.1 to 24.0 branches.

For the older 15.1, 16.0 and 17.1 branches, the security patch has also been moved back to November 2025. Since Google no longer provides complete verifiable security bulletins for these Android versions, the system will not modify the security patch date simultaneously.

Browser-based flash tool:

LineageOS launches Lineage Flash Tools, a web-based flash tool. Users can communicate with compatible devices through the browser without having to install ADB and Fastboot tools separately on their computers. The tool provides four modes: ADB, Fastboot, Samsung Odin and Amlogic Burn, which are respectively targeted at different devices and flashing protocols.

This tool is based on the WebUSB protocol, so the browser used by the user also needs to support WebUSB, such as Google Chrome. Windows devices may require additional USB drivers to be installed, and Linux may require udev rules to be configured. The LineageOS team stated that the web tool is a supplementary option based on the existing installation process, and the specific operation is still subject to the official documentation of the corresponding model.
